Things to Do in CroatiaZagreb is the major city in Croatia with a population of 770,000. It is the main transport hub and well as being the economic heart of the country. The Croatian Government is located here. Architecturally Zagreb is similar to Vienna or Budapest. The facades of the buildings are elegant and beautiful. Right in the centre of the city there is a landscaped park promenade that stretches from the city center to the train station. The side streets are festooned with beautiful relaxing cafes and restaurants. You can sample Zagreb’s history and culture by visiting some of the museums and art gallerys that are located all over the city.

Croatian Natural History Museum: This museum contains prehistoric artefacts from the local area. Many of the artefacts have been taken from caves in the surrounding countryside. The Croatian Natural History Museum also displays a wide variety of flora and fauna from the region. At various times of the year, the museum focuses on specific regions in Croatia and exhibits their local wildlife. Croatian Historical Museum: Croatian History Museum is situated in the old part of the town. The museum was formerly known as the National Museum. The museum now holds more than 140,000 objects there are more than 15 different museum collections. Exhibits include a collection of flags and uniforms, firearms, old photographs and collections of objects from everyday life. The museum also has a library which is open to the public. Dubrovnik: Dubrovnik is a beautiful old town located on the coast of the Adriatic. Lord Byron once referred to this one-time city as the Pearl of the Adriatic. Dubrovnik survived for centuries as a free city who stood up against the powerful Venetians and the Ottoman empire. The past glory of the ancient city can be witnessed by walking around the old city walls. Its citizens are proud of the fact that the city walls have never been penetrated. The city was bombed by the Serb army during the 1991/1992 conflict. Today the city has recovered from the conflict and hosts the average crowds of tourists every year. Dubrovnik is a popular destination for cruise ships. |
