Shopping in Croatia

Traditional gifts such as wood carvings, embroidery and ceramic kitchenware make great souvenirs from your holiday in Croatia.  An added benefit if shopping in Croatia is that tourists can reclaim VAT if they spend more than 500kn. Its important to hold onto any receipts if you want to reclaim VAT.

Shopping hours vary but opening times are generally 7am-7pm. In cities and major towns, the shops may also open on Sundays.

Dubrovnik

Shops in Dubrovnik target the tourist market. The Old Town has plenty of boutiques and souvenir shops to cater for the tourist masses. You can buy fresh fruit and veg at the open air market at Gunduliaeeva Poljana.

Split

The best shopping experience in Split can be found at the two big markets – the Pazar (fruit and veg) and the Peskarija (fish market). If you’re looking for souvenirs then you should check out the Podrum. Split also has its fair share of expensive boutiques which can be found in Marmontova.

 Zagreb

For fresh food the Dolac is the best place to go. All kinds of flowers, fruits and vegetables can be bought here. The market also boasts lots of stalls especially for tourists, which sell souvenirs. For clothing, check out Ilica and Vlaska.
