Accommodation in Croatia

The price of accommodation in Croatia varies depending on the time of the year.  April to September are the most expensive months because this is when most visitors arrive in Croatia. At off-peak times many of the hotels close. The hotels that remain often reduce their rates greatly

Camping

Campsites and becoming increasingly popular. There are approximately 100 camp sites located along the coast of Croatia.  The majority of the them are only open from May to September.  If you were planning a camping then it's important to call in advance to check to see if the campsite is open during that time you are visiting. Don't rely on times and dates you may read in books or see on a  website.

Hostels

The Croatian Youth Hostel Association runs a lot of hostels all over Croatia.  If you become a member they will charge you lower rates.

Private houses

One of the best types of accommodation in Croatia are a private houses.  Locals often rent out rooms in their houses during the summer months. These are much cheaper than hotels and are often much friendlier.  Rooms in private houses can be booked by contacting your travel agent.  One of the problems associated with booking a private house is that the person who owns the house may not be able to speak good English.  If you decide to find accommodation as you travel then you may be able to bargain with the owners.

Hotels

Hotels in Croatia are clean and the service is generally efficient.  Rooms are generally a good size and nearly all come with bathrooms. The majority of Croatian hotels are moderately priced. If you contact your travel agent in advance of your holiday you may be able to get special offers.  Most hotels offer at least breakfast included in the price of your stay.  Sometimes half board is only marginally more expensive than the bed-and-breakfast option.  The hotels in Croatia are ranked from one star to five-star.  One star hotels are like hostels, while five-star hotels offer superior rooms and service.
